We recently came together for an unforgettable evening celebrating International Day of the Girl—reuniting with longtime Studio Samuel supporters and welcoming new friends from the DMV community. It was a night filled with inspiration, shared purpose, and a lot of fun!
Guests were treated to a very special 90-minute DJ set by hip-hop icon MC Lyte, whose presence and empowering words highlighted the celebration of unity and joy.
Under the theme Her Path, Her Strength, Her Voice, we honored the power, resilience, and potential of Studio Samuel students through art. Original paintings by our students and local Ethiopian artists were displayed, with proceeds benefiting the Studio Samuel Girls’ Scholarship Fund.
The evening also featured a rare and exclusive silent auction of an extraordinary photograph titled Home [Ethiopia, 2014], taken by our Global Ambassador, Julian Lennon, during a humanitarian trip in Ethiopia on behalf of his charity, The White Feather Foundation.
Event specialist and author, Bethlehem Bekele Belatchew, emceed the event and moderated a short panel discussion which included Olympic gold medalist Million Wolde sharing his journey of overcoming obstacles and finding his path, encouraging our girls to persevere through their challenges. His message of resilience resonated deeply.
Guests also heard inspiring stories by HIH Princess Edna Tafari Makonnen and Studio Samuel Founder, Tamara Horton, both emphasizing the deep connections that unite us across borders and the critical importance of investing in girls' education.
Adding to the night of art and music, Ethiopian dancers showcased the rich cultural heritage through vibrant performances. Guests also enjoyed an Ethiopian coffee ceremony, a time-honored tradition that offered a warm and immersive taste of Ethiopian hospitality.
We are deeply grateful to our dedicated Board Chair, Helen Stefan Moreau, for hosting this memorable evening at her beautiful home, and to everyone who attended and contributed to the event's success.
None of this would have been possible without the incredible generosity of our event sponsors and the unwavering support of our partners, who have been instrumental in driving Studio Samuel's impact over the past nine years.
To everyone who joined us in person and those who supported the Studio Samuel Girls' Scholarship Fund from afar, you're the heart and soul of our growing community and we're so grateful for your support!
